Autumn in Williamsburg

Autumn is our favorite time of the year in Williamsburg. As the leaves change color and the skies stay blue, the cool crisp air takes over and allows us to enjoy Historic Williamsburg at its best. So many events are happening in the fall. Start with the Scottish Festival, or the Italian Festival. Maybe Art is more your thing? Come and enjoy the Occasions for the Arts which is now a 2 day event right down the street in Merchant Square. Farmers Markets on Saturday mornings or evening concerts in Colonial Williamsburg. Whether you are here for History or just relax and getaway, Autumn is a popular time to visit this beautiful Old Town. Enjoy fine dining in some of Merchant Square’s wonderful restaurants, sip a glass of wine as you enjoy a cheese platter from the Cheese Shop or enjoy the Blue Talon Bistro for a unique bistro meal. Staying at A Williamsburg White House affords you the opportunity to walk to Merchant Square and the Colonial Williamsburg Historic Area while enjoying the comforts of home. Stay in the room of your choice and enjoy a full complimentary breakfast before you walk down the street to enjoy some shopping or a great ole carriage ride down one of America’s prettiest streets. How to spend your visit in Williamsburg

March 29th, 2011 by wdtp

Williamsburg offers a variety of “things” to do.

How you decide what to do depends on the time you have to spend in our town. There is Colonial Williamsburg with its historic homes, buildings and programs which you can easily spend at least 2 full days doing. Then there is Jamestown Settlement with its “state of the art” museum,  3 ships you can tour, the Fort and the Indian Village. Behind the Settlement, you will find the actual Jamestown Island where the archaeological dig is going on as well as a wonderful archearium to tour.  A short drive down Colonial Parkway will bring you to Yorktown Battlefield, Yorktown Victory Center and the Yorktown Riverwalk.

Of course if history is not your interest, Busch Gardens and Water Country is less than 5 miles down the road. Maybe you prefer to golf, have a spa day or shop in over 150 premium outlet stores? Finally, stop at the Winery for your tour and stock up on wine for your cellar!

I haven’t even mentioned the fine restaurants that Williamsburg has to offer or the wonderful shops in Merchant Square.

Maybe just a day relaxing at the Inn, playing some chess, reading a book? Enjoying afternoon wines and snack.

Whatever you trip entails, we can help you plan your itineray when you stay with us, just ask!

Breakfast at the Inn

March 6th, 2011 by wdtp

The Bed and Breakfast experience is one that has many preconceived notions. We try to break those misgivings and show you that once you stay at a Bed and Breakast, you may never go back to a hotel.  We are set up like a small boutique hotel. You as our guest, come and go as you please, you have your own room, your own bathroom and your own key. You do not have to see the innkeepers for any reason but know that we are there to assist you if you need us.  We have common areas for you to enjoy with other guests such as the Diplomatic Reception Room and the JFK Library. Breakfast is served every morning at the same time for all of our guests. You can choose to sit together with other guests in the Reagan Dining Room or at a table for 2 in the JFK Library. No matter where you sit, you are served the same entree. Every morning that you stay at our Inn, you are served a beginner and an entree. This also includes unlimited Orange Juice and Coffee or Hot Tea.  The entree rotates daily and can include such entrees as

omelets, Belgium Waffles with bacon, Stuffed French Toast drizzled in Blueberry Sauce or Eggs Benedict. We can accommodate special diets with advance notice.  Many of our guests are first time Bed and Breakfast visitors and really appreciate the interaction with other guests as they can get a “birds eye view” of the area from them. From young couples in their 20’s to our seniors in their 80’s, we promise that our breakfast experience will be one of the highlights of your day in Williamsburg.

Jamestown’s Military Through the Ages!

February 23rd, 2011 by wdtp

Jamestown Settlement, Military Through the Ages.

Jamestown Settlement's Military Through the Ages

One of our favorite early spring events in the area is “Military through the Ages!”

This weekend long program is presented at the Jamestown Settlement, just over 4 miles right down the street from A Williamsburg White House Inn. Enjoy hundreds of re-enactors depicting soldiers from the 8th century to modern times. This event will take place from March 19-20, 2011.  During this weekend, you can experience the past and present in a unique display of Miltary History as re-enactors show how uniforms, weapons and military tactics evolved thoughout the centuries, as well as field communication and medical treatment. The event also showcases a variety of military vehicles and equipment.

Visitors are encouraged to interact with re-enactors to learn how soldiers attired and armed themselves, as well as how they were fed and housed in times of war.
Thirty five groups based in Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania and North Carolina will portray soldiers and military encounters from the medieval and Viking periods, Hundred Years’ War, War of the Roses, French and Indian War, American Revolution, War of 1812 and American Civil War. Re-enactors representing World Wars I and II, Vietnam War and the Soviet War in Afghanistan will take visitors through the 20thcentury, with the Virginia Army National Guard representing the present
